How COVID-19 Is Rewriting the Future of Business and Work

July 28, 2021

According to the management and consulting firm McKinsey & Company, COVID-19 will have cost the world between $16 and $35 trillion by 2025. While the pandemic led to approximately 114 million layoffs worldwide, you can look at one positive note: It reformed many businesses and work environments for the better.

Keep reading to learn how COVID-19 reshaped businesses and how we look at employee staffing.

Remote work

Working from home during lockdowns was both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it eliminated brutal commutes for many workers. But on the other hand, it led to feelings of isolation for folks whose only daily interactions were with coworkers.

As a staffing company, we choose to look at remote work from the bright side. Working from home—which is still commonplace worldwide—allows employees to work from anywhere they have an internet connection. Workers can spend more time at home with their families or even take a little vacation without needing to request time off.

Staggered work schedules

Many companies that aren’t still fully remote have moved to staggered schedules. So instead of having a full office of employees, offices may be at 75 percent capacity, 50 percent capacity or less. This more staggered office schedule helps ensure social distancing and reduces the chance of illness spreading throughout the company.

During recruitment, a staffing company should be upfront with their candidates in letting them know that they may not be able to work in the office five days per week.

Technological adaptivity

The standard team meeting of everyone sitting in a conference room has gone out the window. Instead, more companies are turning towards virtual conferencing solutions to relay information to the team. This has prompted companies to rethink and update their current technology.

Video conferencing software now must be installed on everyone’s computer, and each computer needs to have a quality camera to allow employees to interact in the virtual meeting. Of course, hopping on a conference call is still an option, but video conferences are much more productive, especially for employees who have trouble focusing without a visual aid.
