Prepare Yourself Before an Interview with These Common Questions

March 11, 2021

Even if you’re a seasoned employee, job interviews are always going to be a bit of an anxiety-inducing experience. However, with a little bit of preparation, you can enter the interview room at a business or local employment agency in Fort Lauderdale, FL with the confidence you need to nail it and secure the position.

While some of the questions you get asked during the interview will likely be specific to the job itself, there are a lot of general questions interviewers like to ask to gather more information about their prospects and their backgrounds. Here are just a few examples of some of these common questions you can use to practice for your interview.

“What can you tell me about yourself?”

There’s also the more generic directive, “Tell me about yourself.” Many interviewers will begin with this question, and this is your chance to make a good first impression. You should have a short answer prepared for this that focuses on your career path, and what led you to this interview. You don’t need to get too detailed in your personal history or life.

“How did you hear about this position?”

You might have found the job listing on a website, but that’s not going to be a sufficient answer. Use this question as a chance to talk about what motivated you to be looking for this type of work in the first place, and why you’re a fan of the company for which you’re applying.

“Why are you looking for a different job?”

Be prepared to discuss why you’re looking for new opportunities. Perhaps you are switching career paths, or see an opportunity for advancement and want to be aggressive.

“Why should we hire you?”

It’s not just enough to say you’re a hard worker—you need to emphasize specifically what skills and traits you will bring to the company. Talk about some of the achievements you’ve accomplished in your career, and your work history. You can discuss the experience you bring within your particular field, as well. These are all specific examples of your value as an employee. Show the employer that you’re a hard, valuable worker—don’t just tell them.

“Tell us about a time you dealt with a conflict you faced at work.”

Interviewers ask this question to gauge how you deal with conflict and how well you think on your feet. Be ready for this question with some specific examples. Make sure, in the example you choose, you resolved the issue in a professional manner and that there was a positive resolution or compromise that you can share.

“How do you cope with stress?”

Your answer to this question will tell them a lot about your professionalism and attitude on the job. You can be specific and explain what you do to deal with stress, such as taking short breaks, setting small and achievable goals to cross off, getting outside, etc.
